A visit to the British Museum
Some of you may recall we discussed a possible visit to the British Museum during one of our meetings before Christmas. The date has now been finalised. Meet at the railway station at around 9.15am, or in the entrance area of the museum at around 11.00 am.

We have been lucky enough to get David Neal formerly of English Heritage to make a return visit. A few years ago he spoke to us about the excavation of the Roman site at Rauns, and this talk should be equally fascinating. David Neal is the undisputed authority on Roman Mosaics
Monday 2nd March 1998 8.00pm City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes Excavations by the Manshead Society.
Barry Horne will be speaking to us about excavations carried out by the Manshead Archaeological society (based in Dunstable) including the Augustine Priory
Monday 6th April 1998 8.00 pm City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes Bob Zeepvat, who was a member of the Milton Keynes Archaeological Unit will be talking to us about the Milton Keynes Archaeological Project. Some of you may recall he was one of the first speakers to give a talk to our society.
Monday 11th May 1998 8.00 pm City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes Late Iron Age and Roman period of the Ouse Valley.
Mike Dawson of Bedfordshire Archaeological Service will be speaking to us on this subject of local interest. He recently gave a talk to the CBA on this subject, and is intending to get the information into print very soon.
Monday 1st June 1998 8.00 pm Westcroft District Centre - Outside the Craft Shop (near Safeways Supermarket, where H7 and V2 meet) A walk around some of the sites of Western Milton Keynes.
We shall be visiting Shenley Toot, the church at Tattenhoe and the site of Snelshall Priory (near the village of Whaddon).
Contact a member of the committee if you need directions for where we will meet.
Sunday 14th June 1998 9.30am at Wayfarer carpark, Willen Lake or 12.00pm outside Lincoln Cathedral Lincoln An organised visit to Lincoln to see the cathedral and other early buildings of interest.

Monday 6th July 1998 8.00pm City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes Our own Brian Martin will be talk to us about coins and their identification. This is a hands on talk with plenty of opportunity to examine close up some of the coins in Brian's collection
Sunday 19th July 1998 9.30am at Wayfarer carpark, or 11.00am on site West Stow Suffolk. Booked tour starts at 11.15am prompt Annual picnic. Organised visit to the Anglo Saxon Village reconstruction at West Stow which is north of Bury St. Edmunds. Follow the brown tourist signs off the Bury-Mildenhall Road, the A1101 to West Stow Country Park. £1.50 per head admission (organised visit rate)
Sunday Lunch 23rd August 1998 Alison's House Alison Bussey is again our host for the Annual Barbecue. A fund raising event.
Monday 5 October 1998 8.00pm City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes Our own Isabel Lisboa will be talking to us about a subject of local relevance and interest. The title for her talk is Buried Landscapes on the Great Ouse
Saturday 10 October 1998 11.00am in Bedford Bedford Museum, Castle Lane, Bedford. A group visit to Bedford Museum. We had hoped to organise a guided tour, but this proved unachievable so we are going just as standard visitors. Meet at 10:15am at Wayfarer car park Willen Lake, or 11.00am outside Museum
Monday 2 November 1998 8.00pm City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes Gary Marshall of the National Trust will be talking to us about Stowe and the Restoration of an 18th century Garden Landscape. Some of you may recall this talk from the CBA South Midlands Spring Conference earlier this year.
Saturday 5 December 1998 7.30pm Isabel's House Isabel is our host for the Christmas Party this year. This is where you have a chance to show off your culinary expertise, or bring along your favourite food and drink. Contact Isabel to ensure we don't all bring mince pies!
